🌟 About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Consultant Engineer (Java) based in Wellington to help deliver modern, scalable software solutions for large organisations.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, building high-quality backend systems, and contributing to the design and evolution of cloud-native architectures.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and architects, helping organisations modernise platforms and deliver reliable, scalable software.

🛠️ What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing and developing backend services and APIs using Java

  • Building microservices and distributed systems for enterprise platforms

  • Working with modern frameworks such as Spring Boot

  • Contributing to system architecture and technical design

  • Developing event-driven and integration solutions

  • Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality software

  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments

  • Advising on engineering best practices, architecture, and system design

👀 What We’re Looking For

You are a calm, pragmatic, and resilient engineer who performs well in structured, high-standard environments and takes pride in doing things properly.

You bring:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience

  • Strong experience with Java and modern backend frameworks (Spring Boot / Spring ecosystem)

  • Experience building REST APIs and microservices

  • Experience working with distributed systems and event-driven architectures

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases

  • Experience working in Agile engineering teams

Bonus experience:

  • Apache Kafka or messaging platforms

  • Cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP)

  • Docker / Kubernetes

  • CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience working in financial services, government, or large enterprise environments

🎓 Qualifications

You should be strong in backend and platform engineering, with hands-on experience in most of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Industry certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) are beneficial but not required
